THE REFURBISHED MALLACOOTA BUNKER

The Bunker Museum now houses the SS Riverina Display - In 1927 the SS Riverina was shipwrecked near Tullaberga Island. All passengers landed safely and reached Mallacoota after a 13 km walk along the beach.

A great tourist attraction for many years, the wreck is now barely visible abov low tide.

The wreck was bombed and strafed by the RAAF during the second world war. Numerous artefacts have been salvaged and are now displayed in special cabinets commissioned for the purpose.

The museum houses other wartime memorabilia and local heritage exhibits. The museum is open on Tuesday mornings from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm.
